Informative talk of the Fondecyt at UNI: Leaders in Innovation Fellowships

Leaders in Innovation Fellowships is a residential program of training in innovation and technological entrepreneurship, within the framework of the Newton Fund, which will be held in the United Kingdom from November 12 to 24, 2018.

This Thursday, June 24, the informative talk Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) and other calls for Fondecyt were given by the Ursula Reyes Expert. The purpose of this meeting was to inform the research faculty and students of our university about the current calls for scholarships and internships.

The talk was held in the presence of Eng. Cesar Pongo, Manager of Start-Up UNI, who addressed some words of welcome and motivated the audience to channel their efforts and research to innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Fondecyt representative Ursula Reyes made the presentation of the LIF call and explained the bases and application procedure for this program. This program is organized within the framework of the Newton-Paulet Fund, an initiative of the Government of the United Kingdom. He also presented other calls for scholarships and internships CTI that are in force.

The announcement of the IDF is open to research faculty, postgraduate students and entrepreneurs who have intermediate or advanced English certification atleast. Those selected for the scholarship will have access to a preparation program before their stay in the United Kingdom. The LIF program has a maximum duration of 2 weeks,

The financing is related to the cost of the program and international travel expenses. These expenses are managed and covered by the Academy.

The Government and the Engineering Academy of the United Kingdom seek applications from researchers with strong entrepreneurial potential. The objective is to build collaborative links in research and innovation with allied countries to contribute to their economic development and social welfare, as well as to develop their research and innovation capacities for long-term sustainable growth. The Fund is managed by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) of the United Kingdom and runs in 18 countries around the world

On Wednesday, June 26, a Networking organized by Start-Up UNI was held in order to present to the network of mentors. The program with the most selected personalities of recognized national and international trajectory, involved in the growth and strengthening of the pre-incubation and incubation of ventures in the National University of Engineering.

Dr. Walter Estrada López, Vice Chancellor of Research of the UNI, highlighted the University’s commitment to the development of technology-based ventures through Start-Up UNI and highlighted the importance of these activities in which many young students can interact with their various initiatives and recognized talent.

The meeting was chaired by Ing. César Pongo, Start-Up Manager UNI, who explained the role played by the mentor network of Startup UNI. It is fundamental piece in the consolidation of the ventures, supporting specific issues and sharing their knowledge and contacts until developing the necessary capacities so that the projects advance with greater effectiveness.

Meanwhile, the director of the Office of Management of Innovation and Technology Transfer (OGIT-UNI), Ing. José Oliden Martínez made a remembrance about the foundational beginnings of Startup UNI in 2015 and the first successful ventures.

In his final speech, he expressed the willingness of the OGIT to continue supporting Start-Up UNI by promoting a new generation of technology-based companies in Peru.

Many mentors also showed their willingness to continue with this task and the invocation to redouble their efforts in the creation of new innovative business ideas. In that context, the mentor Mg. Erwin Salas, from MIT, said that his biggest dream is for the next unicorn startup to come out of the current team of UNI entrepreneurs.
